HPV

HPV vaccine comes in 2 forms, Gardasil and Cervarix, protects people from cancers caused by human pappilloma virus type 16 and 18, 6 and 11. This can be given to both males and females.

The vaccine does not protect from all strains of HPV virus. After the injection routine cervical smear should be carried out as usual. Adverse effects are very rare but mild tummy upsets, dizziness and headache can occur.

Three doses of each of the vaccine is given at 0, 2 and 6 months or alternatively it can be given at 0, 1 and 4 months.
