Polio Vaccine
Polio vaccine is normally given as routine with the childhood immunisations. It is eliminated from Americas, Western Pacific, Europe and United Kingdom.
However there were 40 cases of paralytic polio between the years of 1985 and 2002 and mainly these infections were acquired overseas.
This vaccination is mainly for people who have emigrated to England from countries where there is no structured programme of vaccinations.
At present only an injection form of polio is given in the United Kingdom and it is given as part of combined product. A total of 5 dosages are necessary.
Adverse reaction after injection are a mild fever, local reaction and screeming after the injection can occur. The only contract indication to the vaccine is confirmed anaphylactic, that is an allergic reaction following the injection.
